SET4: IEA-HIA New Task Local hydrogen supply for vehicles

Awarded: NOK 0.19 mill.

The overall goal of this project is to establish a new industrial task under the IEA Hydrogen Implementing Agreement (IEA-HIA) focusing on small scale hydrogen production. The task will be a continuation of Annex 16 Subtask C Small stationary reformers f or distributed hydrogen production (2002-2005) and Task 23 Small scale reformers for on-site hydrogen supply (2006-2011). There is a strong motivation among the industrial partners of Task 23 to bring forward a new task on small scale production of hydro gen. Norway has successfully led the previous two tasks and currently hosts two of the leading demonstration projects in Europe (HyNor and H2moves). It is in the interest of Norwegian stakeholders engaged in the development of a hydrogen society, both o n the supplier and end-user side, that such an initiative is successful as interaction across technology segments is essential to enable harmonization of technology and reduce costs. Norway has been asked by the IEA-HIA ExCo to take the initiative to comm ence a new industry driven task. There is a need to continue the work of Annex 16 and Task 23 to ensure a more unbiased verification of on-site production technologies (reforming and electrolysis). Such work can only be performed under an impartial globa l organisation as the IEA. A continued strong industrial engagement in the work performed under the IEA-HIA is essential to ensure that industry supplied data (real data) are used in future analysis, and to ensure global industry support in development of the hydrogen society. Sub goals of the new tasks are: 1. Supplier assessment of available on-site production technology 2. Monitor and review upcoming technologies and their barriers 3. Harmonize and standardize components 4. Generate a meeting platfo rm for reformer and electrolyser producers as well as end-users
