Adaptive capacity to climate change -personal overseas fellowship

The personal overseas researcher grant will facilitate and undertake critical tasks for the accomplishment of Critical Aspects of Adaptive Capacity to Climate Change in the Northern Regions (working title CAVIAR-II) funded by NORKLIMA (project number ES-4 83216). CAVIAR-II is an on-going project where we study adaptation and vulnerability to the combined and interacting changes in climatic and socioeconomic conditions in northern local community. The funding sought will cover five months for one Norwegian researcher at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF), where CAVIAR-II participant (and WP4 lead) Amy Lovecraft is an Associate Professor. The overseas research grant also includes a visit to the University of Indiana and the Ostrom Workshop on Politica l Science and Policy Analyses, a collaborator on WP5 in CAVIAR-II. The Political Science Faculty at UAF provides a wide range of student programs on environmental policy and the relationships between complex global environmental issues and policy response s at all levels of government, inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations. The teaching and research at the Workshop at the University of Indiana probes the inner workings of human institutions' structures of rules used to govern people and res ources. During the stay in the US, the candidate will work on the analyses and publishing of data according to WP1, 4 and 5. The project will benefit from an extended integration and close collaboration and dialogue between international project partners and Norwegian institutions. Visiting an American university also generates opportunities for improving academic language and skills for publishing in international journals with referee. In addition to the deliverables and project output as described abov e, this overseas fellowship will strengthen i) Norway as an attractive collaborative partner for international researchers, ii) the mobility and international network in Norwegian academia.
