Det 19. nordiske slavistmøtet - 19th Nordic Congress of Slavists

Awarded: NOK 0.25 mill.

The Nordic congress of Slavic Studies, founded in the 1950s, is a triennial event hosted by universities in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. At the 18th conference, which took place in Tampere in 2010, the University of Bergen was selected venue for t he 19th convention, to be held 7-11 August 2013. As President both of the Nordic Assosiation of Slavists and the Norwegian Assosiation of Slavists, the project manager (Ingunn Lunde) is responsible for this event. The University of Bergen hosts the Nordic Congress of Slavists for the second time in the history of the congress. The 7th congress was organized by the University of Bergen in 1974. The conference offers four plenary talks by leading Slavic scholars of the Nordic countries. The conference is ex pected to attract approx. 80 participants. Paper and panel proposals are reviewed by the conference organisation committee and accepted papers/panels are organized in sections of lingustics, literary studies, and cultural history, including interdisciplin ary papers. For the benefit of the new generation of Slavists in the Nordic countries, we plan to organize a Forum for young scholars focusing on creative and innovative research leadership, with the participation of experienced and inspiring research le aders. In addition to the plenary talks, paper and panel sections, and the young research leaders' forum, the conference also offers a book exibition and a rich social and cultural programme, in cooperation with the municipality of Bergen and local cultu ral actors. Dissemination is planned in various channels and forms. We intend to podcast the plenary talks and make them available at the conference web site together with accompanying powerpoint presentations. All abstracts will be put on the conference web site, and participants are encouraged to submit revised papers to the international, peer-reviewed journal Scando-Slavica.
