The Joint NOFOD and SDHS Conference: Dance ACTions: Traditions and Transformations

Awarded: NOK 0.11 mill.

The Joint NOFOD and SDHS Conference "Dance ACTions: Traditions and Transformations" will be arranged at NTNU, Trondheim, 8-11 June, 2013. The theme of the conference is chosen according to the following considerations: NOFOD's commitment to artistic resea rch and SDHS's focus on the history of dance. It perfectly corresponds to the wide range of activities of the local organizer of the conference in Trondheim, the Program for Dance studies at NTNU. The local organizer of the conference in Trondheim, the Pr ogram for Dance studies in cooperation with the Norwegian Center for folk music and folk dance has become an important center for archiving and researching of traditional Nordic dance forms. European recognition of its activities is Choreomundus (Erasmus mundus) - International master in Dance Knowledge, Practice, and Heritage which investigates dance and other movement systems. The Nordic Forum for Dance Research is a non-profit organization that promotes collaboration between dance scholars and practit ioners. The purpose of the organization is to enhance, empower and bring together diverse forms of dance research, knowledge and practice especially in the Nordic context. Society of Dance History Scholars advances the field of dance studies through rese arch, publication, performance, and outreach to audiences across the arts, humanities, and social sciences. As a constituent member of the American Council of Learned Societies, SDHS holds wide-ranging annual conferences; publishes new scholarship through its proceedings and book series; collaborates regularly with peer organizations in the U.S. and abroad. Estimated number of participants at the conference is 150-200. Dance scholars, performers, PhDs and students in dance from all Nordic countries will a ttend the conference. Nordic participation is expected to exceed a half of the total number of participants, but non-Nordic participants hopefully will be close to another half.
