PharmaFate: Fate and Transport of Discharged Pharmaceuticals and their Metabolites

Awarded: NOK 0.36 mill.

The aim of my mobility stay at Prof. Sebastien Sauves lab is to further develop experimental systems and theoretical models to accurately describe the environmental behavior of pharmaceuticals and their metabolites in diverse aquatic systems, including po re waters. This will involve the integration of environmental sampling approaches and sorption models that I have developed has part of my research at my home institute (the NGI), with Prof. Sauvés state of the art work in developing analytical systems f or the trace detection of diverse pharmaceuticals and metabolites in the environment (at UdeM). The research visit will be of particular advantage to the work I am doing at the NGI, researching emerging contaminants, as it will give me access to and a bet ter understanding of advanced analytical equipment; of which will be utilized in future collaborations with Prof. Sauve as well as the development of NGIs environmental laboratory. The project will involve an experimental and modeling component, to be don e in parallel, and ending with a writing phase. The exchange period is scheduled from August 1st 2013 to July 31st 2014 12 months)
