The Exilva project is focusing on development, production and sales of Microfibrillar Cellulose (MFC) to several market industrial segments. The MFC is a new and promising product based on cellulose as a sustainable raw material. The project has to main goals: 1) Develop a full scale MFC plant 2) Develop the market(s) for MFC The project will thus investigate in detail the technical perspectives of production of MFC in a pilot scale and evaluate how the scale up will take place. The project has sofar reached major milestones in relation to understand the potential for scale up of the technology and the costs attached to various industrial scale production plants. Based on these findings Borregaard has decided to invest 225mNOK for construction of the first MFC plant in the world. The initial capacity of the plant will be 1000 MT The project has tested several products in different industrial segments and Borre gaard has seen an increasing interest and potential within these segments. Exilva is seen as a potentially new business unit within Borregaard. The project was publically announced at the Borregaard Capital Markets Day in March 2014 and at the companys Q3 2014 report.

The Exilva project focuses on development, manufacture and sales of Microfibrillated cellulose into various applications. The Microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) is a new promising product based on a sustainable Norwegian raw material. The Borregaard scope i s to develop a full scale manufacturing facility. The project covers in detail the technical sides of development and evaluation of production methods, pilot plant and design of a commercial industrial plant in addition to pre-commercialisation steps. Mic rofibrillated cellulose is a product with global potential and Borregaard will focus on export to several regions and applications. The MFC product will open a new set of opportunities for Norwegian Export industry.
