Subject Fields:

My stay at the Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (IERES) at George Washington University (GWU) has multiple and intertwined aims. Firstly, the year in Washington, DC will allow me to focus on producing innovative research on Soviet and Russian politics that will deepen our knowledge of northwest Russia?s history and current political environment. Secondly, I will be able to access archival resources in Washington, DC that will inform my present and future research. Thirdly, and most imp ortantly, I will benefit from the proximity to both the staff at IERES as well as to the larger research community in the US that is engaged in Soviet and Russian studies. My research will be directly informed by findings in two archives situated in Washi ngton, DC. The massive holdings of the National Archive, and most prominently the presidential libraries, will be of great interest to me. More importantly, I will have an opportunity to study in the National Security Archives, which are located at the GW U. These archives contain many documents stemming from Soviet and later Russian sources pertaining to the economy and political development also in the Russian northwest, as well as observations made by American diplomats. During the academic year 2013-20 14, I will aim to produce two peer-reviewed articles. In addition, I will make the necessary adjustments to my recently completed Ph.D. dissertation in order to publish it as an academic monograph.
