Level densities and gamma strength function are fundamental properties of the atomic nucleus and important input parameters in reaction cross-section calculations. Cross-sections are important for nuclear reactor simulations or in astrophysics calculation s of how elements are formed in supernova explosions. In Oslo an experimental method to measure both level densities and gamma strength functions has been developed. We have measured a wast set of data from a light Si nuclei all the way to several heavy U isotopes. The significance and usefulness of our work could be much increased if the experimental level densities which we produce could be matched by an extensive theoretical analysis in term of Shell model and BCS Hamiltonian. Professor Luciano Moret to is a theoretician and a world leading expert on level densities. During his stay in Oslo he will work together with the nuclear physics group in Oslo performing theoretical calculations/analysis to interpret the nuclear level densities extracted experi mentally using the "Oslo-method" in terms of the shell model and pairing correlations. Professor Moretto is, in addition to being a great scientist, known for giving the most inspiring lectures. Therefor we take the opportunity to have him give a series of lectures while at the University of Oslo.
