Miniature Ultra-Sensitive 3-C Accelerometer

Alternative title: Miniatyr Ultra-Følsom 3-C Akselerometer

Awarded: NOK 3.7 mill.

Project Number:

235378

Project Period:

2014 - 2016

Location:

The main objective of is this project is to realize a new type of sensor in order to improve the quality of the data retrieved under seismic operations. Sensors are used for monitoring the intensity of seismic waves reflected by the geological structures located under the sea bed. The seismic system permits imaging of these geological structures and gives indications of the presence of oil and gas. PGS is a leading player in the global advanced seismic business, and offers a broad range of products incl uding seismic and electromagnetic services, data acquisition, processing, reservoir analysis/interpretation and multi-client library data. We help oil companies to find oil and gas reserves offshore. Recent reservoir discoveries on the Norwegian continent al shelf illustrate the potential value creation for Norwegian offshore industry. Better imaging capabilities could not only help us find new areas with oil and gas, but also help us see the true value of more mature provinces, such as in the North Sea. During the last decade, SINTEF has developed several new ideas, patents and products based on MEMS (Micro-Electro Mechanical System) sensors. These sensors have a high degree of miniaturization and ensure a high level of sensitivity, which improves the se ismic imaging while the sensor production methods make mass-production at low cost possible.
