Sensor technologies are used for multiple purposes in the electronics industry, chemical industry and other areas to determine and identify electric impulses, physical impulses, chemical compounds or also biological signals in recent biosensor technologie s. Biosensors play a crucial role in medicine and health, particularly as public health authorities have expressed increased concerns with the risks of transmission of multi-resistant epidemics and infections with growing globalization. Recent events such as recent outbreaks of multiresistant tuberculosis bacteria in Great Britain and Norway, and outbreaks advanced and difficult infectious diseases in Africa and South America are examples. EPITEC projects to manufacture and implement a novel bionanosensor technology for the rapid and accurate identification of multi-resistant bacteria including multiresistant yellow staphylococci, tuberculosis and multiresistant pneumonia species on public places, such as airports, train stations and hospitals. The mechan ism relies on the use of a bionanocircuit, where carbon nanotubes are arranged in arrays with the microbiological medium, and femtosecond electric impulses are sent across a growth-medium for detection of multiresistant species. The potential benefits are commercial as well as scientific, with emphasis on product and technology patenting, royalty and licensing, and increased scientific expertise for bionanotechnologies in Norway and Romania. EPITEC aims to fabricate the sensor, and test it in controlled e nvironments in laboratory with the consortiums expertise, and follow a test-implementation in a public site of particular international traffic.
