Etablering av søknad til REFLECTIVE-7-2014: Advanced 3D modelling for accessing and understanding European cultural assets

Awarded: NOK 39,999

Field boundaries including hedges, stone walls or ditches are highly characteristic features of our common European heritage, representing perhaps the most important 'letters' in the story of the cultural landscape. FIELDBOUND is about reading these lette rs, so as to be able to give clear indications to policy makers and the public how this heritage can survive as the functions of rural areas change and evolve towards a valuable and sustainable landscape of the future. Since agriculture is the main driver of change in rural areas, FIELDBOUND focusses on the opportunities that the EC's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) offers to realise a sustainable approach of agriculture in relation to quality of life and landscape identity. As a result of agricultural a nd other policies in the past, many typical field boundary types have disappeared over recent decades, giving way to large scale production areas where heritage and biodiversity values are often limited. The CAP now challenges to develop sustainable strat egies, including the proper protection and management of cultural landscapes and field boundaries still present. To support such strategies, various innovative methods for monitoring, mapping and planning should be employed, which all have in common an in tegrative, collaborative approach. FIELDBOUND tests a suite of complementary tools and techniques for mapping, assessing, understanding and valorising field boundaries as key heritage features in the European landscape. In 5 case studies, each characteris ed by a specific type of field boundaries, these methods are used and evaluated with the aim to analyse the role of agricultural policies, and to identify how the CAP can help and improve community based landscape forming processes and their sustainable m anagement. The project will generate stimulating knowledge brokerage opportunities between the 5 participating countries, benefitting civil society involvement and entrepreneurial prospects in the rural countryside.
