Cost Efficient Generation of Electricity from Surplus Heat

Awarded: NOK 0.15 mill.

The CraftEngine is a heat engine that has been developed to enable the most cost efficient generation of electricity utilizing the surplus heat in exhaust gas, flue gas and other heat sources in industrial processes. The CraftEngine? can increase the electrical output by 4-8 % and thereby achieve equal improvement in fuel economy and carbon emissions. After the majority of the heat energy has been utilized to generate additional electricity heat suitable for space heating or other purposes can still be made available at 60-70ºC. This contributes to increasing the overall energy efficiency of industrial processes including the operation of generator sets and waste incineration solutions. As a direct result of achieving the primary objectives of Project Heat, VHEn will be able to deliver price competitive solutions for enhancing the electrical efficiency of gas powered generator sets and processes with similar operational characteristics. The expected outcome is the entering of a strategic OEM partnership agreement with MWM or similar manufacturer for the sales, distribution and service of integrated CraftEngine? solutions. This will allow the start of annual serial production of minimum 1000 expanders (250 PowerPacks) to be integrated with gas powered generator sets.
