Norwegian Micro- and Nanofabrication Facility II

NorFab legger til rette for tilgang av topp moderne utstyr og laboratorier for brukere i Norge, uavhengig av deres akademiske eller industrielle tiknytning. Laboratoriene består av tre akademiske noder - NTNU NanoLab i Trondheim, SINTEF MiNaLab og UiO MiNaLab i Oslo, og Høgskolen i Sørøst-Norge MST-Lab lokalisert mellom Tønsberg og Horten. NorFab tilbyr nasjonal tilgang til en infrastruktur som både inneholder standard og moderne utstyr som er viktige for forskning og utvikling innenfor mikro- og nanoteknologi. Alle partnerne i prosjektet har komplementære profiler og er dedikerte til å tilrettelegge for nasjonal koordinering av investeringer og videre utvikling av infrastrukturen. Siden oppstart i 2010 har NorFab tilrettelagt aktiviteter for et bredt spektrum av brukere som varierer fra akademiske grupper fokusert på grunnforskning og utdanning til innovative bedrifter med et behov for små-skala produksjonsfasiliteter. NorFab dekker alle de tematiske områdene beskrevet i den nasjonale strategien for nanoteknologi, og et mål i det nye prosjektet er å videre øke bredden på brukergruppen. Visjonen til NorFab er å være en robust og kompetent infrastruktur som støtter opp og tilrettelegger for forskning og innovasjon for en ny mikro- og nanoteknologi industri i Norge. NorFab prosjektet må derfor være målrettet i å opprettholde en konkurransedyktig infrastruktur for utvikling og pilotering av nye produkter og teknologi. For å imøtekomme dette kravet, må laboratoriene representere en topp moderne og attraktiv infrastruktur i årene fremover. Dette krever en kontinuerlig oppgradering og vedlikehold av utstyr og utvikling av kompetanse. Prosjektet har søkt om finansiering for en periode over 5 år (2015-2019). Prosjektet har et total budsjett på 552 MNOK, hvorav 134 MNOK er søkt i støtte fra Forskningsrådet.

NorFab is the Norwegian national infrastructure for micro- and nanofabrication consisting of 4 partners: MiNaLab (SINTEF and UiO), NTNU NanoLab and MSTLab at HBV. NorFab provides national access to an infrastructure that contains generic and state of the art equipment applicable for micro- and nanotechnology (MNT). By a continuous and systematic build-up of a cleanroom process knowledge base, which is shared between the nodes and made available to the users, the infrastructure is made accessible to users from academia, institutes and industry. The vision is to develop the infrastructure towards a robust and competent backbone for research and innovation based on MNT in Norway. Where the main goals are to improve the quality and volume of the MNT research and enhance innovation in the sector. NorFab aims at supporting all areas of basic knowledge development, innovation and commercialization, and responsible technology development. All partners have a complementary profile and are committed to a national coordination on investments and further development of the infrastructure. Since the start in 2010 NorFab has already addressed a broad spectrum of users ranging from academic groups focusing on fundamental research and education, to innovative companies with the need for a small scale production facility. NorFab cover all thematic areas described in the National Strategy for Nanotechnology and the aim is to further expand the user community. In order to fulfil the vision, the infrastructure must be maintained at top international level also in the coming years. This requires continuous upgrading of the equipment and the associated knowledge. This proposal applies for a continuation of the funding for a new 5 year period (2015-19). The project has a budget of 552MNOK. A funding of 134 MNOK is applied from Research Council of Norway, where 60% is allocated to equipment and 40% to combined barrier lowering measures and basic running costs.
