Project summary, "A Comparative Study of Disruptive Behavior Between Schools in Norway and the United States". Research problem What do students say about their experience of disruptive behavior in school in Norway and the United States? Objectives of the project The objectives of the project are to examine the student-perspective on disruptive behavior in schools and to compare the results between schools in Norway and the United States. R&D Challenges Disruptive behavior is one of the most challenging issues in schools today, and it impairs both teachers' teaching and students' learning. The issue of disruptive behavior is not yet fully understood and there are few studies who examine the student-perspective. Also, the comparative aspect of disruptive behavior between different cultures and school-system is seldom addressed in research. To examine disruptive behavior comparatively may prove valuable. Acquiring knowledge from other cultures and school-systems can provide cross-cultural interaction and cooperation between researchers and schools about one of the most challenges issues they encounter in their daily practice. Anticipated use for research findings Hopefully, the research findings may prove fruitful for developing strategies that can be applied in practice when trying to manage the complicated issue of disruptive behavior in schools.
