Integral Low-Energy Desalination System for Drinking Water: A Combination of Nanofiltration, Forward & Reverse Osmosis and Photocatalysis

Photocat aims to develop a new water decontamination unit combining novel, doped nanophotocatalysts with UV-LEDs in a system that completely destroys chemical & microbiological contaminants without producing harmful by-products. Photocat will deliver a prototype of a novel decontamination system, optimised for ballast water cleaning, including a clear demonstration of the system. This can be in addition to current technologies, or as a replacement for conventional UV water treatment. Photocat is a Cooperative Project With 3 Norwegian partners (KeraNor, NIVA and NTNU) and 2 British partners (P.W.Circuits and Axess).
