Norwegian industrial companies normally operate in demanding markets where the requirements for customer adaptation, flexibility and productivity must at all times be combined with innovation and improvements. This is particularly challenging for small and medium-sized businesses, which often have limited resources, where personnel are often involved in improvement at one moment and may then have to return to an urgent task in production. Live Innovation Performance (LIP) addresses one of the biggest challenges facing manufacturing companies today: How can you successfully implement innovation projects in parallel with optimal production processes? Very often we see that innovation projects have challenges by daily tasks stealing focus, taking on personnel and financial resources etc. At the same time, we see that innovation projects too much have their own lives offline the challenges and opportunities that exist in operations, or also disconnected development in the environment such as: new technologies, market and supplier relationships. Ideally, it should take place an interaction in operation (production), improvement work and innovation (development) ideally this should take place in an interaction..Live Innovation Performance (LIP) has dealt with this interaction by means of technological enablers, new working methods and processes. develop entirely new dynamic approaches to innovation work. This is about the fact that operations and improvement work must constantly be able to reap the innovation work, while at the same time the operational activities and the improvement work should give impetus to the innovation activities. With this backdrop, Live Innovation Performance (LIP) focused on the challenge of developing new ways of working with improvement and innovation projects in production companies based on technological solutions that enable the integration of operational resources (eg production personnel, product developers, sales and marketing personnel), machines / equipment etc, with innovation projects. This is done through user-friendly generic tools that link different systems and solutions in production (order processing, MRP), resource management (ERP) and notification (eg Outlook) in the companies. In addition to this, focus has been placed on technological opportunities for the acquisition of knowledge internally and externally. LIP has worked with the aim of developing a common, generic platform technology that can be implemented through new innovations for each company. As an important part of the project, work has therefore been done through case studies in each company. In this way, we have wanted to ensure that developed solutions and technologies lead to innovations based on very close and close dynamic processes between the individual companies, companies and research environments and that solutions and innovations are brought together.

LIP har utviklet samhandlingsmekanismer for innovasjon, forbedringsarbeid, og drift ikke bare i deltakende bedriftene, men også gjennom generell kunnskapsutvikling og generiske løsninger for SMB-er. Dette har skjedd gjennom: (1)Utvikling av prosesser, organisering og samhandlingsmodeller for effektiv ressursutnytting totalt av produksjons- og utviklingsressurser (2)Teknologiplattform for tilfang av kunnskap til innovasjonsprosesser fra interne og eksterne kilder. (3)Applikasjon som automatisk gir kritisk informasjon til utviklingsarbeid, samtidig som den bidrar til forenkling i hverdagen gjennom en strukturering av arbeidsprosesser (4)"Product-embedded" teknologiplattform for intelligente produkter som gir produkt- og bruksdata over hele produktets livssyklus. (5)Løsninger for automatisk prosessovervåkning og kvalitetskontroll i produksjon av mekaniske produkter gjennom digitale analyseverktøy.

Norske industribedrifter opererer i all hovedsak i krevende markeder der kravene til kundetilpasning, fleksibilitet og produktivitet, til enhver tid må kombineres med innovasjons- og forbedringsarbeid. Dette er spesielt utfordrende for små- og mellomstore bedrifter, som gjerne har begrensede ressurser, der personell gjerne i det ene øyeblikket er involvert i forbedring for så å kanskje måtte gå tilbake til en presserende oppgave i produksjonen. Live Innovation Performance (LIP) tar tak i en av de største utfordringene man har i produksjonsbedrifter: Hvordan styrke omstillingsevne ved å kunne gjennomføre innovasjonsprosjekter på en effektiv måte parallelt med optimale produksjonsprosesser? LIP tar for seg dette samspillet ved at man med hjelp av teknologiske muliggjørere, nye arbeidsmåter og prosesser skal utvikle helt nye dynamiske tilnærminger til innovasjonsarbeidet. Dette handler om at drift og forbedringsarbeid hele tiden skal kunne høste av innovasjonsarbeidet, samtidig som den operative virksomheten og forbedringsarbeidet skal gi impulser til innovasjonsaktivitetene. Å styrke samspillet handler om å fjerne unødvendige avbrudd i de ulike aktiviteter og prosesser f.eks. ved at personell og andre ressurser blir "tatt". En styrking av dette samspillet vil også kreve at man har gode varslings- og oppfølgingssystemer slik at handlingsrommet mht. tid og ressurser blir økt betydelig. Dette handler i stor grad om elementer vi finner innen produksjonsparadigmet "Industrie 4.0" , der produkter, systemer og prosesser kommuniserer med hverandre. LIP skal i tillegg til tegnologiplattformer for datafangst og prosessforbedringer og nye organisatoriske løsninger også utvikle konkrete verktøy forressurssrtyring og integrasjon.
