SET 9: IFEs Deltakelse i IEA-GIA ny annex

Awarded: NOK 0.50 mill.

-Måloppnåelse i henhold til egendefinerte hoved- og delmål The major objective of the project has been to lead a newly established Task E Surface Technology heat and electricity production, corrosion, scale and tracers, which belongs to recently established Annex XIII Emerging Geothermal Technologies which is part of the IEA-GIA. Annex XIII was established as a result of the closure of Annex III (Enhanced Geothermal Systems), Annex VII (Advanced Geothermal Drilling and Logging Tools) and Annex XI (Induced Seismicity). The Task E in Annex XIII contains amongst others activities which were carried out in the closed Annex III, however in a much enlarged form. The main interest has been in managing and mitigating corrosion and scale in geothermal systems, and use of tracer technology for reservoir management. IFE is highly competent in this area of research and has participated in several EU geothermal projects in FP5, 6 and 7. The motivation for leading the task E has been to gain useful international contacts which could be utilized in applying for funding research in Norway from EU funds, other international funds and also domestic funds in the research and innovation areas which are themes of Task E. As shown in the following sections, these objectives have been successfully achieved. - Beskrivelse av nytteverdien av deltagelsen. Leading the Task E has been great value to IFE and Norway. IFE has been able to join a highly prestigious EU Horizon 2020 project GEMex providing expertise on tracer technology which is one of the main themes of Task E. Valuable international contacts on corrosion scale and tracer technology (themes of Task E) have been utilized in giving valuable input and industry support to the FME proposal GeoS and to the recently submitted KPN and IPN proposals to NFR. These recent NFR proposals have important contribution from Norwegian and also overseas partners not only by in-kind but also by cash. Task E has also been used to disseminate the new technology originally developed by Norwegian SME ?Reelwell? for oil and gas industry also for geothermal community. If successful it could provide new market for Reelwell In summary, by leading Task E, IFE has reached a status of a leading Norwegian and international expert on tracer technology, corrosion and scale for high temperature geothermal applications. - Generell oppdatering på gjennomførte aktiviteter i perioden. Summary of workshops meetings of Task E in the period 2016-2017 -Meeting 1: Cuernavaca, Mexico (April) in connection with ?IEA-Geothermal? EXECO meeting and ? Central & South American Workshop on direct heat? organized by IEA-Geothermal. -Meeting 2: Munchen, Germany (September) in connection with ?IEA-Geothermal? EXECO meeting and ?Molasse workshop? dealing with state-of-the art of German geothermal industry. -Meeting 3:Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand (November) in connection with 11th Asian Geothermal symposium and ?IEA-Geothermal? workshop on ?Opportunities and Benefits of Geothermal Direct Use?. -Meeting 1: Offenburg, Germany (February) in connection with GeoTHERM-expo & congress combined with Latin American Symposium organized by ?IEA-Geothermal? Meeting 2: Firenze, Italy (May) in connection with IEA-Geothermal EXECO meeting and workshop on statistical methods for collecting geothermal data. -Meeting 3: Hanoi, Vietnam (November) in connection with IEA-Geothermal EXECO meeting, and IEA Asian Geothermal Workshop

The objective of the project is to lead a newly established Task E ?Surface Technology ?heat and electricity production, corrosion, scale and tracers?, which belongs to recently established Annex XIII ?Emerging Geothermal Technologies? which is part of the IEA-GIA. Annex XIII has been established as a result of the closure of Annex III (Enhanced Geothermal Systems), Annex VII (Advanced Geothermal Drilling and Logging Tools) and Annex XI (Induced Seismicity). The Task E in Annex XIII contains amongst others activities which were carried out in the closed Annex III, however in a much enlarged form. 2-3 meetings are planned every year. Two of them are in connection with EXECO meetings which are held twice a year. Third meeting will be held in connection with a major geothermal global event. Telephone and skype meetings are also planned.
