Awarded: NOK 59,999

The International Glaciological Society (IGS) (http://www.igsoc.org) is the preemeninent professional society concerned with scientific aspects of snow and ice. The goals of the IGS are to stimulate interest in and encourage research into the scientific and technical problems of snow and ice in all countries, and to facilitate and increase the flow of glaciological ideas and information. The IGS publishes the prestigious journals Journal of Glaciology and Annals of Glaciology. Under the umbrella of the IGS are various regional branches, including the Nordic Branch (NoB), which comprises glaciologists from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland. Its main activity is to organize an annual conference, the NoB-IGS meeting. These meetings, which have been held each year since 1993, rotate between host countries of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland. The NoB-IGS meeting is open; participants come from all over the globe. This year it is Norway's turn once again to host the NoB-IGS conference; this year's meeting will be held in Tromsø, at the Fram Centre. The main objectives of the NoB-IGS meeting are to 1) promote exchange of information on existing and planned projects within the Nordic countries, and to 2) give young scientists who are new to the field an opportunity to meet with older, established colleagues, and vice-versa.
