The project goal has been to develop a system for monitoring the condition of a flow regulation valve, used for controlling the flow of oil/gas in subsea and topside production systems, through an advanced instrumentation solution that will give continuous on-line information. The systems will provide the end user of a better picture of the state of the valve system, and it will also be used to provide input to maintenance programs
Development and qualification of a complete conditions monitoring system for a choke valve based on a needle principle. The system will provide the client with a new diagnostic tool providing continuous on-line
information about the state of the valve and the mechanical infrastructure that the valve is a part of, in terms of
vibrations, internal erosion and information about the flow regime (e.g. slug flow). The qualification program will be performed according to relevant international standards , e.g. ISO 13628 and DNV recommended practice RP A-203. Typical failure modes of choke valves today is, erosion/mechanical damage related to extreme flow
velocities, vibration related fatigue issues and failure of choke position change mechanism..
