Solution Seeker is a spin-off company founded in 2013 that originates from the Center for Integrated Operations at NTNU. The ideas result from an 8-year collaborative research project between NTNU, SINTEF, IFE and numerous industry partners, and furthermore an IPN project with ConocoPhillips and ENGIE. The technology is based on a solid theoretical foundation as well as an intimate understanding of the oil industries' challenges in daily production optimization. Oilfield operators need tools for automated analytics to leverage the large quantities of data being captured. Solution Seeker combines data processing, machine-learning and visualization into a real-time, automated, and data-driven advisory system for daily production optimization. This is currently being developed as a novel software product called ProductionCompass. ProductionCompass is a web-based solution focusing on availability, low maintenance, user-friendliness and cut-to-the-chase problem solving. The solution is unique and technologically innovative compared to currently available alternatives. It consists of multiple production enhancing applications, such as automatically generated advice on how valves, pumps or pressures can be changed to utilize production system bottlenecks better. Experience from the ongoing FORNY-project is that data-driven production optimization using ProductionCompass is verified on a limited production system. However, for the oil companies to use the product in their daily operations, the functionality of ProductionCompass need to be extended and a prototype tested under normal operations in collaboration with a pilot customer, through this extended FORNY2020-project.
