The project related to this application specifically is to establish and prepare an application to Eurostars (PES).
Summary with respect to the possible Eurostars project itself:
Based on success with the development of a novel X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) detector in an earlier project, we now want to use this technology platform to develop a disruptive novel detector system for XRD. Based on the superior energy-resolution, this detector will supersede all present geometrically similar detectors in respect to the ability to reject background.
Notable main R&D challenges will be:
The challenge of creating a 2D-matrix ASIC with elongated pixels and with full spectroscopic readout, with ultra low-noise at low power, high speed and robustness against pick-up.
The challenge of creating a high-speed multi-channel ADC and DAQ system for reading and controlling the XRD detector, with de-randomizing feature and massive parallel data-processing in small space and at low power;
The challenge of creating suitable mechanical housing that includes localized thermo-electric detector cooling to -25C, something that also will include features like a hermetically sealed chamber containing an inert-gas.
