Reelwell has developed a technical solution with direct electric cabling inside the drill pipe, called DualLink, which provides both telemetry and electric power.
DualLink has the following key features:
Telemetry:
- High-speed data transmission
- Significant improvement in the data rate capability of downhole tools
- Distributed sensors along the string, ASM, for measuring pressure, temperature, etc.
- Improve geo-steering and LWD technology
- Eliminate NPT from mud pulse failure
- Improve well control
- Enable automated drilling
- Shorten well drill time -> reduced cost and reduced environmental footprint
Electric Power:
- Downhole electric power will enable new downhole sensors and actuators
- Shorter, cheaper, and more reliable tools
- Eliminate the need for turbines and lithium batteries
DualLink technology for drilling developed and successfully qualification tested to TRL 5 according to DNVGL-RP-A203 and API RP 17N.
200 joints of pipes (2000m) built during the project.
Modem technology developed.
Production technology for drill pipe developed.
In addition, the following products have been developed/integrated to receive data and power through the DualLink pipe:
- Halliburton BHA integration
- Topside slip ring
- Along String Measurement
- D&I module
Technology tested on Equionor platform in the North Sea and also on several US platforms with our partner Nabors.
JIP final pilot well at Ullrigg with a Halliburton BHA powered from the surface through the drill pipe.
Technology qualified for first commercial use.
