The next generation hospital beds

The Ably bed solution seeks to address the current health care challenges by redefining what the hospital bed can be-through innovative bed design, sensor technology, analysis capacity, and know-how from the automotive industry. The bed will improve the working conditions healthcare professionals by improving quality of care, freeing up time and resources, and increasing the capacity for preventive care. The innovative idea behind the Ably bed relies on three key technological innovations:(1)innovative bed frame movement system that empower patient and offload medical personnel, (2)non-intrusive measurement of patient health indicators, (3) Analysis capacity enabling analysis of sensor and movement data that provides a novel early warning system that empowers both personnel and patient to intervene before falls or pressure ulcer incidents occur. The objective of the NextGenBed project is to position the Ably Bed as a highly innovative medical device ready for the German healthcare market as a first step to reach the global healthcare market. Expected successful commercial launch by Q4/2021. We will use this 30-month project to bring the bed from its current status as demonstrated technology to a complete and qualified, market-ready product. The combined market opportunity for the project consortium upon project completion and market entry in 2021 €500 million. Estimations of reduced cost related to nursing burden, fall injuries, and pressure injuries over 5 years for health care systems can sum up over €14Billion and increasing by an additional €2.5Billion/year, assuming there are 75.000 beds in operation at the end of year 5 and will be selling additional 25,000beds per year going forward.
