Nyby was established in September 2015 by Fredrik Gulowsen, Experienced tech-entrepreneurs. The founding team of Nyby consists of Fredrik Gulowsen, 15 years as a serial entrepreneur including co-founded Kolonial.no (currently valued at +200M EUR). Kristina Tuhus, extensive international experience from 7 years at McKinsey with a background in home care. Knut Urdalen, CTO and former co-founder of Stay.com, Magnus Kober co-founder of SPOND (= complex coordination app) today with over 500.000 active users and present 6+ European countries. A “vision first” company. Unlike many business ventures, Nyby is not a “business-model-first company”. The spark to the idea stems from the personal experience of Fredrik Gulowsen as next of kin to a severely ill younger brother, combined with his background in political science and extensive experience of digital transformation. Willingness to pay and unique R&D partnerships have been key. Back in 2015, we established pre-paying R&D partnerships with a number of municipalities. The partnerships were unique in the sense that they were not based on a predefined specification, but rather on a shared vision of enabling the welfare society of tomorrow. We built a team of 14, including experienced designers and software engineers. Together we spent the next 3 years digging into the complexity of public sector, talking to hundreds of managers, decision makers, users, employees - building, learning and iterating. Paying customers from the first year has been very important to validate the market from the start to ensure committed partners and customers and a profitable model fuelling future growth.
