ARCIE: Artistic Research and Creative Industries in Europe Over the last 20 years, artistic research has become established as a research discipline in Europe, including several fields of art; theatre, dance, music, fine art, film, design and architecture to name a few. The common denominator for the discipline in Norway is research in and through the arts, research trough artistic methods. Differing form research on the arts as in Humanities. In Norway artistic research is by law acknowledged as a parallel to scientific research and in 2018 a new PhD program in artistic research was implemented. The number of Research fellows are increasing, ambition and demand to conduct larger research projects are as well. However, the challenge is that artistic research is not included in EU’s research programs and other funding agencies. ARCIEs prime objectives are to provide input on behalf of Norwegian stake holders within artistic research and creative industries to the Horizon Europe programme, and inclusion of artistic research as a recognized research discipline within programs and calls in Horizon Europe. And to emphasize that there should be a stronger focus on Artistic Research as a basis for sustainable development of creative industries in Europe. Through a series of meetings with Norwegian stake holders and international NGOs and higher education institutions (HEIs), the project will form the basis for a number of recommendations for shaping the content of Horizon Europe with respect to Artistic Research as a new research discipline and how this discipline can become essential for creating new and innovative artistic expressions for developing the European creative industries to become more competitive in a global market. After the meetings, where several of them have been confirmed already (see attachment), the project team will develop and conduct survey and interview with Norwegian stake holders and international NGOs and HEIs to collect their inputs on research and innovation strategies for relevant calls with focus on topics such as "Research Infrastructures (Integrated and inter-connected world-class research infrastructures)”, "Digital Industry & Space", "Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Societies" and "European innovation ecosystems (Connecting with regional and national innovation actors)" i.e. "creative industry clusters". After compiling the findings, a draft document will be circulated for discussions and feed-back, before a final report will be handed over to the Norwegian Council of Research. The project will be conducted by experienced researchers and managers from Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design (KMD) at University of Bergen and from Media City Bergen (MCB) with experience from national and international projects within a) Artistic Research and b) developments of sustainable creative industries with focus on knowledge clusters.
