Support for network-related activities that promote scientific development and renewal within the Center for Business Economics

CBE is a research group in the fields of microeconomics and industrial organisation focusing on how different firms and organisations are affected by their economic environment, and how they set prices, quantity and quality on the goods and services they offer. Within these research areas, the internal organisation and ownership structure, their incentives for research and development, and how firms and organisations react to changes in public policy are important questions. Researchers at CBE have a focus on highly relevant, top-quality research and have published in top academic journals, including the American Economic Review, the Economic Journal, Rand Journal of Economics, the Review of Economics and Statistics and the Quarterly Journal of Economics. The research undertaken in CBE is relevant both for firms’ decision-making and strategy as well as public policy. This can be seen in that CBE researchers at NHH have been active in the public debate and policy formulation through committees appointed by the government as well as through for instance the externally funded FOOD research program where several of our researchers work on the grocery industry. The project includes network-related activities that promote scientific development and renewal, and that increases the spillovers from research to education. The main part of the project focuses on activities that benefit the entire group, such as research visits to CBE/NHH, and activities that strengthen the national Ph.D. education within the area of CBE. The latter includes national Ph.D. courses but also access to guest researchers and workshops/conferences that will strengthen the environment around the Ph.D. candidates.

CBE er en forskergruppe innen mikroøkonomi og næringsøkonomi som fokuserer på hvordan ulike bedrifter opererer i forhold til hverandre, og hvordan de setter pris, kvantum og kvalitet på varene eller tjenestene de tilbyr i markedet. Videre er man innen disse forskningsområdene opptatt av bedriftenes interne organisering og eierforhold, deres incitamenter for innovasjon og utvikling, og hvordan bedrifter og næringer blir påvirket av offentlig politikk. CBE forskere har fokus på høy kvalitet i forskningen og har publisert i topptidskrifter som the American Economic Review, the Economic Journal, Rand Journal of Economics, the Review of Economics and Statistics og the Quarterly Journal of Economics. CBEs forskning er relevant for både bedrifters beslutninger og strategi samt markedsregulering. Dette fremkommer også i CBE forskeres deltagelse i en rekke offentlige debatter og offentlige utvalg samt det eksternfinansierte forskningsprogrammet FOOD som er et samarbeid mellom NHH og Norgesgruppen. Prosjektet inkluderer nettverksaktiviteter for fagutvikling og faglig fornyelse som favner bredt innad i gruppen og som øker spillovereffekten fra forskning til utdanning. Hoveddelen av prosjektet fokuserer derfor på tiltak som gagner hele miljøet, som f.eks. gjesteforskeropphold ved NHH, og tiltak som styrker satsningen på doktorgradskandidater, både internt på NHH/i CBE og nasjonalt f.eks. gjennom nasjonale kurs for doktorgradskandidater av ledende forskere innen fagområdet men tilgang til gode gjesteforskere og konferanser/workshops vil også styrke miljøet rundt og utdannelsen til de interne doktorgradskandidatene.
