PES SHIELD Accelerator

A gas influx is a major risk to operational safety and the cause of significant non-productive time (NPT) in drilling today. This project will qualify and commercialise a new technology that will enable the to identifying the location and distribution of gas in the well while drilling based on the characteristic responses on surface measurements as gas expands. The project will build on technology developed through a Eurostars and an IPN project that will significantly to improve state-of-the-art methods for real-time detection and identification of gas in the well, providing technology for influx management which is unparalleled in the industry. The new technology will mitigate the risk and reduce NPT for drilling operations in depleted, high-pressure-high-temperature (HPHT), and deep-water fields by removing considerable uncertainty associated with the handling of an influx event, and ultimately preventing an influx from escalating into a blow-out incident.
