Topfinancing MSCA Melomanes

Awarded: NOK 0.58 mill.

MSCA Melomanes is an acronym for "Combination therapy for the treatment of metastatic melanoma using magnetic nanoparticles". My role in the project is to investigate and evaluate the multiscale biological effects of nanoparticle-induced hyperthermia treatment on melanoma tumor microenvironments, and its prospect for improving the therapeutic efficacy of CAR-T immunotherapy. The nanoparticles will generate heat when irradiated with a near-infrared laser (photothermal therapy, PTT) and/or when subject to an alternating magnetic field (magnetic hyperthermia, MH). By inducing a local temperature increase, properties of the tumor microenvironment is altered. During my PhD, I will perform a comprehensive study of the biological outcomes of nanoparticle-induced hyperthermia using different tumor models to gain a deeper understanding of and to control the interplay between the nanoparticles and the tumor microenvironment.
