PETROMAKS-Maksimal utnyttelse av petroleumsreserver

We will develop models and solution techniques for analysing infrastructure investments in offshore natural gas production and processing networks. Typical decisions analysed are: Where and when should one build infrastructure both for production and tr ansportation, which technology should be chosen, choice of production profiles, where should processing be done, what products should be produced, etc. This project addresses mainly two of the topics in the PETROMAKS programme and this call for proposal s. - The cost-efficient transportation of gas from the field: The project addresses optimization models and methodology to analyze how to build efficient production and transportation systems for natural gas from well to market. Enhanced recovery: We address enhanced recovery not at the field level by better technology, but rather at the continental shelf level in a system perspective. This allows that developments, production and transportation are phased in optimally and when possible. The main me thodologies and research fields in the project will be - Stochastic programming - Large scale (nonconvex) optimization - Process control - Economical modelling through the activities: A1 Describe and formalize industrial cases A2 Develop infrastructur e modelling framework A3 Develop global optimization methods for stochastic programming A4 Researcher exchange activities A5 Networking activities The project will consist of 2 PhD students, one at NTNU and one at MIT. The project is sponsored by Hydro a nd Statoil. One of the main purposes of the projects is to strenghten the cooperation between NTNU and MIT and to achieva a strong alliance betwen the two universites and Norwegian industry in the field of gas technology. To NTNU this research project is of high strategic importance as it is central in our effort to build world leading expertise in the area of energy and the environment in general and gas technology in particular.
