Heart and skeletal muscle inflammation (HSMI) - molecular characterisation of the virus and vaccine development

Awarded: NOK 3.6 mill.

Project Number:

176975

Project Period:

2006 - 2009

Organisation:

Subject Fields:

Heart Skeleton muscle innflammation (HSMI) has been an increasing problem in Norwegian salmon farming since the first occurence in 1999. This project aims at a further characterization of the HSMIV viral genome and viral proteins (WP1) as a basis for prod ucing recombinant virus protein and making recombinant test vaccines against HSMI (WP2). An optimisation of virus cultivation in cell lines will be done, and vaccines based on inactivated virus will be produced and tested in vaccination challenge tests (W P 3 and 4). Immunological responses following challenge and immunisation will be measured as antibodies, immune cells involved plus cytokine profiles in naïve and immunised fish (WP 3 and 4).
