Subject Fields:

The Norwegian School of Veterinary Science (NVH) aims to be at the forefront of international research in the field of aquatic medicine. During many years and through numerous national and international projects, NVH has built up substantial competence wi thin marine research/fish health and functional genomics, a competence we regard as a valuable contribution in order to maintain and the develop the aquaculture industry as a vital industrial activity in Norway. The current proposal with its different act ivities fits very well into the research strategy of NVH, in which both research within aquamedicine and functional genomics are highly prioritized areas. NVH has established resources like cDNA libraries, BAC library, sequences of ESTs, micro satellite markers and a genetic map for Atlantic salmon and a database and bioinformatics infra structure, through SALMAP and the Salmon Genome Project. In this new project, we aim at developing and extending these resources that will be available for future use to the research society.
