Developing the SALBANK resource

The SALBANK population was set up as an experimental cross to detect QTLs and genes. By crossing strains that have been geographically isolated since the glacial period: the relict strain Byglandsbleka and the Norwegian elite population NLA followed by in ter crosses, family sets with an expected high degree of variation and contrasts of economically important production traits have been produced. However, until now, no genotypic recordings and a negligible amount of phenotypic recordings have been perform ed. In this project, we will develop a resource of genotypic and phenotypic recordings of the SALBANK population, and set up a management team around the SALBANK population that manages the population (genetically and practically), develops QTL mapping to ols, initiates research projects utilizing the population and encourages further use of the population through the GENOFISK consortium.
