FUGE-Funksjonell genomforskn.i Norg

Local NOR-MIC BioImaging node at the University of Tromsø

Awarded: NOK 0.45 mill.

At the University of Tromsø we now establish a core facility for BioImaging. This core facility will be equipped with instruments aimed at imaging, flow cytometri, cell sorting and plate/membrane readers of fluorescent and chemiluminescent signals. For th is core facility we will have two full-time permanent technical positions. The core facility will offer technology and know-how to cover the basic needs within multi-color confocal imaging, live cell imaging, flow-cytometry and cell sorting. In addition, the core facility will hopefully be an attractive partner for external research projects in fields where we have or will develop strong expertise. To generate at strong core facility in a field with very rapid development demand a critical mass of advanc ed users. In Norway we have today no research groups with sufficient financianl support or number of scientist to really set the international order in this field. However, if we manage to establish a national network of advanced users that benefit for ea ch others efforts we will make a significant number of users and can create a environment that can make significant contributions in the Imaging field. If we manage to do so, it will be very beneficial for a a high number of FUGE II projects.
