This is a proposal for a research project, which focuses on generating and applying basic knowledge about the separation of sand from liquids such as heavy crude oil and mono-ethylene glycol, also when mixed with water. The project will involve efficiency testing, experimental particle tracking in a PET camera, simulated particle tracking using CFD and phenomenologically based modelling of separation efficiency. The project is a co-operation between Aker Kvaerner Process Systems (AKPS) and the University of Bergen (UoB). AKPS and UoB have agreed on the project objectives as defined in the project description. Project supervision will be done by UoB with support from AKPS. AKPS will supply the testing equipment.
