18th International Conference on Solid State Protonic Conductors (SSPC-18)

Awarded: NOK 0.25 mill.

Solid state protonic conductors are the basic functional components in technologies of which many are, and will be, essential for the development of sustainable energy technologies. From September 18th to 23rd, 2016 , the 18th International Conference on Solid State Protonic Conductors (SSPC-18) was organized at Soria Moria Conference Centre by the Solid State Electrochemistry Group (FASE), Department of Chemistry, University of Oslo. The conference had Dr. Tor S. Bjørheim, Prof. Truls Norby and Prof. Reidar Haugsrud as chairmen, being supported by a local organizing committee counting all the members in the FASE group. The series of international conferences on Solid Sate Protonic Conductors are the globally acknowledged gathering focused on pure and applied science of these classes of materials. SSPC 18 gathered 180 delegates from 18 different countries. The conference is the major event where chemistry and physics of proton conductors - ranging from fundamental processes to cutting-edge applications - are discussed among researchers, scientists and engineers from both academia and industry. The scientific program consisted of 76 oral presentations and 87 poster presentations. The contributions were invited to submit full scientific papers to the proceedings which will be published as a peer reviewed issue of the Elsevier periodical Solid State Ionics.

Solid state protonic conductors are the basic functional components in technologies of which many are, and will be, essential for the development of sustainable energy technologies, e.g. fuel cells and electrolyzers. The series of international conferences on Solid Sate Protonic Conductors (SSPC) are the globally acknowledged gathering where between 150 and 200 researchers, scientists and engineers from both academia and industry meet to discuss the chemistry and physics of proton conduction - ranging from fundamental processes to cutting-edge applications. From September 18th to 23rd, 2016, the 18th international conferences on Solid Sate Protonic Conductors (SSPC-18) will be organized in Oslo by The Group for Solid State Electrochemistry at Department of Chemistry (FASE), Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology, UiO - one of the world most recognized groups in the field. The scope of SSPC-18 is centered on concentration and transport of protonic species in solids, from elementary processes to applications in electrochemical devices. Topics include materials, properties, mechanisms, computational approaches, applications. The 18th SSPC meeting will, moreover, address a special topic; exotic hydrogen species in oxides. The scientific program will consists of plenary (2-3), keynote/invited (20-30) and regular oral presentation (50-60), in addition to two poster session (80-100 posters all together). The scientific presentations will be published in an abstract booklet and ful scientific papers in a special issue of the international Elsevier journal, Solid State Ionics. The tentative total budget of the conference is well above 1500 kNOK. We apply FRINATEK for up to 250 kNOK.
