Carbocation mediated hydrocarbon reactions over acidic zeolite type catalysts

Tildelt: kr 0,60 mill.

This programme covers a concentrated effort from SINTEF and UiO to study reaction mechanisms influenced by structural and chemical effects using acid zeolite type materials. Investigations of the methanol to hydrocarbon reactions (MTH) will be a central part of the programme with focus on the elucidation of the active carbon pool species, allowing to draw conclusions valid for the mechanisms of alkylation, isomerisation and c racking reactions as well. In addition, one activity will concentrate on the synthesis, modeling and characterisation of new zeolite type catalysts. Computational chemistry is performed in close cooperation with the experimental work. New approaches are used to calculate reaction energies, leading to information on thermodynamics and activation energies as well as kinetics enabling discrimination bet ween different proposed reaction mechanisms.
