Geografi:

Records of rapid climate oscillations during previous glacial and interglacial intervals of varying intensity may help to understand the causes and consequences of millennial-scale climate change. Leg 202 recently recovered high-sedimentation-rate cores f rom the Southeast Pacific, permitting the resolution of millennial-scale variability. These records have great potential for establishing tropical-high latitude links regarding mechanisms and spatial extent of rapid climate change. The aim of this study i s to participate in a joint effort to address tropical paleoenvironmental and climate variability for the last 2 Ma at millennial-scale resolution. The results will provide an extraordinary look at the space-time pattern of climate variability on a global scale.
