Deep drilling in Lake Malawi, East Africa, and Lake Bosumtwi, West Africa: Preliminary core description and geochemical screening

During 2004 major dilling projects will be carried out in the sediments of Lakes Malawi and Bosumtwi (tropical Africa) under the auspices of ICDP and NSF. One of the primary goals is to obtain high-resolution records of environmental change in the tropics spanning the las 0.5-1.0 myr. This proposal is for funding to participate in the drilling operations, and subsequent description, initial analysis and interpretation of the cores. Results from the projects are expected to have a major impact upon our un derstanding of tropical and global climate change.
