In developing sea ranching (Havbeite) with scallops in Norway it is an absolute condition that spat produced from local stocks are available. Reproduction cycles of local stocks will be investigated and methods developed for conditioning 4 local broodstoc ks. Successful aquaculture depends on high quality spat at low cost. Traditional production methods of spat in the hatchery are labour intensive. The development of new and more cost-effective methods is therefore needed to obtain even larval settlement, high number and stable outcome of spat. Relations between stock origin and settlement methods will be investigated.
