Zooplankton-fish relationship between Calanus and Norwegian spring spawning herring in the Norwegian Sea.. Utenlandsstipend

Tildelt: kr 71 499

The overseas stay at the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, University of Washington, USA, will be a part of my Ph.D. study within the RCN project ADAPT on the zooplankton-fish relationship between Calanus and Norwegian spring spawning herring. My st udy will focus on the timing of herring migration and feeding in relation to seasonal development and vertical migration of Calanus. I will look at herring horizontal and vertical migration through the different water masses in relation to C. finmarchicus seasonal cycle. To explore this, I will consider the diet of herring in relation to zooplankton distribution in the area of interest. I will also consider the physics and phytoplankton production because this is important for Calanus production and ascen d in spring. Dr. Horne and co-workers at the University of Washington with their field of research will be a source of inspiration and support for me during analysis, writing and publication. I will also participate in ongoing research at the School of Aq uatic and Fishery Sciences.
