The overall idea is to make integrated Pan-Arctic reseach programmes involving US, Canadian and Russian partners in the ARCTOS network. This will be done through a workshop and to make an integrated research plan.
Specific tasks will include:
Task 1: Pos t. doc, PhD and master student integration.
The ARCTOS will look into the possibilities to exchange of students, develop specific pan-arctic student workshops and education of master students in arctic and polar science. The ARCTOS PhD school (http://www. nfh.uit.no/arctos/recruitment.html) and integrated student activity will be the base for the activity.
Task 2: Integration of ongoing and planned programmes of the partners. The ARCTOS network is involved in several projects relevant for IPY Pan-Arctic a ctivity. All of them are of relevance for IPY (http://www.nfh.uit.no/arctos/research.html) and two last through the IPY period, the MariClim project founded by NFR and the EUR-OCEANS network of excellence founded by EU. In task 2 we will aim to integrate the Norwegian ARCTOS activity with partners in USA and Canada.
Task 2: Researchships and other of infrastructure. ICARP II aime to prepare arctic research plans for the next 10-15 years. ARCTOS is active in this process, but there is a need to implemen t the ICARP II plans into feasible research projects. ARCTOS will try to facilitate common use of ships and infrastructure on ongoing research programmes within the ARCTOS network
