Recycling and remelting of light metals

Tildelt: kr 0,29 mill.

Recycling of metals, particularly aluminium, magnesium and silicon, is a relatively new research area, and recycled metal is being increasingly used in industry. Recycling is especially attractive if the melt treatment does not degrade the quality of the metal. The main objective is to address future challenges in the areas of quality and efficiency. My present research activity is on recycling and refining of light metals, in particular developing a general model for delacquering of aluminium. Additiona l long-term research plans include a book bringing scientific methodology to handling of liquid recycled metals. Colorado School of Mines is a public research university devoted to engineering and applied science with deep understanding in metals. This me ans that a combination of practical, theoretical, and experimental work in the laboratories, in cooperation with their industrial network, is offered to me. This will hopefully give me an excellent chance to play a role in the future concerning recycling of light metals. Light metals where Norway has a long tradition in research, development and production.
