USA - Research Collaboration on Carbon Nanostructures between IFE and University of Hawaii at Manoa

Tildelt: kr 0,10 mill.

The project aims at establishing a long term a collaboration on the theoretical and experimental research of carbon nanostructures between the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) and the University of Hawaii at Manoa in USA .This follows our recent suc cessful work on carbon cones. At IFE, there is a long term project on nanocarbon, involving sacle-up production of carbon nanotubes, as well as fundamental theoretical and experimental studies of the novel carbon nanocones. Two small start-ups, n-TEC AS and Carbon Cones AS, are collaborative partners at IFE for innovation. At the Univ. of Hawaii, there are projects using new ways to produce experimentally carbon nanomaterials by high-voltage plasma processes in liquids. This leads to structures such as carbon nanotubes, carbon onions, nanodiamonds, and toroidal forms of carbon. Theoretical modeling and calculation is necessary to understand these structures. The application of molecular mechanics techniques, as well as semiempirical and ab-initio quant um mechanical methods is required.
