Kina - Initialisation of Project Co-operation with the Xinning Environmental Protection Bureau and its affiliated Research Institutes, China

NIVA has established project activities in China in 1995, and since then, carried out 10 R&D projects in various provinces in China. Through the Chinese counterparts in these projects, we have been introduced to the Xinning Env protection Bureau, which is keen on establising a project in water and wastewater issues. Initial discussions were made with officials from the central government and the Central Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) which were positive. We have briefly discussed the possible con tent of such a project, along the content of our other existing and completed projects. Our estimate was that such a project will be in the range of 10-12 mill NOK. The Xinning city government is willing to finance 4-5 million NOK of a potential project, which could be co-financed with Norwegian or Swedish bilateral funding of about 5-7 million NOK.
