Kina - Prevention of type 2 diabetes in Oslo, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China

The Jiangsu Provincial Centre for Disease Control (Jiangsu CDC) in Nanjing has already collected data from a random sample of about 5000 urban individuals aged 20 years and above for a diabetes study. The epidemiological situation of T2DM in China is very little studied yet. We are now going to include a research fellow from the Nanjing group to analyse prevalences for type 2 diabetes, compared with our other three regions. Objectives will be to estimate the prevalence of T2DM, IFG and IGT in the Juangsu Province, and their relations with demographics and lifestyles, to estimate the biophysical (blood pressure and anthropometry) and biochemical (blood lipids) risks related to T2DM, IFG and IGT, and to compare the associations between T2DM/IFG/IGT, biophy sical, biochemical and lifestyle factors observed in China compared to data from Oslo (migrants and ethnic Norwegians), Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
