Japan - Advanced Biological Materials International collaboration between NTNU and Japan

Tildelt: kr 86 471

Development of materials from natural resources are important in transforming into a sustainable and technological advanced society. The project focuses on developing international research projects between Japan and Norway within materials based on biol ogical resources. Focus areas include development and structural characterisation of natural biopolymers, biopolymer fibre reinforced composite materials, and development of special quality biopolymers as basis for joint reaserch and innovation. The pro ject activities include development and characterization of novel complex nanomaterials reinforced with nanofibres and whiskers from renewable resources. The nanosized materials will be isolated from different sources and used to reinforce polymeric matri ces based on renewable resources, with the goal of diminishing/removing the current dependency upon petroleum-based polymeric matrices in sectors where composites are used and also in new forthcoming applications related to these materials. Moreover, sust ainable development of knowledge-based materials and environment-friendly methods will be required for production of such materials.
