MSH: Reading instruction and reading research in France

Referring to the agreement between Fondation des Sciences de Homme (FMSH) and the Norwegian Research Council (NFR) I hereby apply for a grant making it possible for me to travel to Paris and stay for one month during the spring term 2007 at the Maison Sug er or in one of the apartments at the disposal for researchers in rue Henri Pape. I have been interested in the French school system ? and in comparing it to the Norwegian one ? since I went to high school at Lycée Corneille, Rouen, 1969-1972. Thereafte r I have taken part in several research projects which have involved the French school system and French researchers. I want to follow up these projects by focusing particularly on the influence of French reading research on reading programmes in French primary schools. I will also focus on whether and how particularities in French language and the French school system may explain differences between France and Norway in this connection.
