Bioenergy Laboratory

Tildelt: kr 2,6 mill.

There are three thermochemical routes suitable for the conversion of biomass: pyrolysis, gasification or direct combustion, and the primary products can be a synthetic gas (syn-gas), bio-oil, solid char and/or heat dependent on conversion technology emplo yed. Biomass gasification and combustion has already proven its superior features when it comes to energy efficiency. But in conjunction with biomass gasification most serious problems in the field of gas cleaning and reduction of emissions must be invest igated and eventually solved for improved applicability. The problematic of fine dust emissions has gained increasing public attention recently. The BioEnergy Laboratory will be equipped with necessary equipment to characterise the biofuels, experi¬menta lly simulate the biomass conversion process, analyse the products including ash, i.e. fine particles, gases and the fraction that has the potential to condense as the temperature is reduced. Thus the whole biomass utilisation route can be investigated and interactions between the thermal conversion and the subsequent emissions can be explored.
