INTRANS - Intelligent goods in transport systems

Tildelt: kr 7,4 mill.

The Norwegian industrial sector is facing tremendous opportunities and challenges in today's ever-changing global market environment. Norway's location on the outskirts of Europe provides special challenges for logistics, and thus a key challenge for Norw ay is to develop transport systems that are able to coordinate and synchronise the material and information flow on a global scale. The movement of goods has to take place in a system based on a high level of integration and collaboration, and the intelli gent exploitation of information technology, and deployment of logistics and supply chain management control principles. The proposed INTRANS project specifically addresses these issues. The overall objective of the project is to develop knowledge, conce pts, models and systems for intelligent, fully-automated flow of goods and information in transport networks through employment and development of leading-edge technologies. This will be done through the creation of intelligent goods in transport systems, where the goods finds its own path through multimodal transport systems. The associated research R&D challenges of the project are: * New concept and requirement for intelligent goods * The intelligent goods and logistics units * Intelligent transport planning and traffic management * Sensor technology and information capture * Supply chain control and decision support * New business and collaboration models * System architecture for intelligent transport networks The INTRANS project will form an u mbrella organisation, coordinating between several ongoing and future research projects. The project is conducted in close cooperation between leading industrial actors and research departments within transport and logistics.
