Reliable and reproducible pre-processing of complex molecular mixtures from biological samples is an essential component of the analytical work flow. The high level of complexity of biological samples such as cell lysates, tissues and body fluids means th at analysis of their molecular components requires a combination of several separation steps. This particularly applies to low abundance proteins and small molecules such as peptides. Free Flow Electrophoresis (FFE) is a matrix free technology that can be used to separate very small molecules, very large molecules, polymers and particles in a rapid and reproducible manner with very high levels of sample recovery. FFE can be used under both native and denaturing conditions permitting the recovery and analy sis of in-tact cells, protein complexes, virus particles and sub cellular organelles.
